As Vicar one of the high points of my week is Wednesday morning when I come into school to take assembly. The chance to meet with pupils and staff as well as to share Christian teaching is a real privilege, though also challenging.
The link between the school and the church is also celebrated through festivals held in St Andrew’s for Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Christmas as well as visits at other times during the year. I very much hope that through this ongoing work, the pupils will be encouraged to do their best, respect each other and develop a vision for their future that they will build on as they go to secondary school.
The link with the church helps to develop an experience of education that is value based as well as academically grounded. Of course, my role as parish priest is to encourage the children to take seriously the Christian faith and to encourage them to pray and listen carefully to the teachings of Jesus. In later life this will be important as they make decisions about faith for themselves.
